LOCAL PRINTER PITCHES IN TO MAKE SURE DORAL MIDDLE SCHOOL'S NEWSPAPER MAKES IT 'HOT OFF THE PRESS'

~PrintFarm helps revive school newspaper that had been put on hold due to school budget cuts~

May 4, 2010

Miami, FL - On Thursday, May 20, 2010, PrintFarm, a full-service Doral-based printing company, has invited Doral Middle School's newspaper class to come and see countless hours of their hard work and dedication materialize. Unfortunately, as a result of school budget cuts, Doral Middle School's newspaper was put on hold. Yet, through a partnership made with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) to assist with different initiatives in order to lend a hand to teachers and students, PrintFarm sought the perfect opportunity to continue to offer their support by offering assistance at what they do best.

Besides reviving their school newspaper and helping bring their stories to life, the sixth, seventh and eighth graders that comprise Ms. De la Osa's class will be taking a fieldtrip to PrintFarm, located at 3511 NW 74th Avenue Miami, FL 33122, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, for an interactive hands-on tutorial where they will get to experience the printing process from the moment the press is turned on until the ink is dry.

In order to kick-off the agenda at 10:00 a.m. and in an attempt to give the students a truly enriching experience, PrintFarm has invited Danielle Alvarez, a University of Miami student reporter to come and talk to the students, whose ages range from 11 to 14, about the importance of being ethical journalists, writing great stories, dealing with competition and meeting tight deadlines. Shortly after that, it's off to the presses. Mike de Paz, Marketing Director of PrintFarm, will be speaking about the printing process from A-Z and students will get to roll up their sleeves and witness first-hand as their school newspaper comes to life. After a hard day's work, PrintFarm will treat students to lunch while they engage in a question and answer session where students will be encouraged to ask any questions about what they learned.

"It is truly refreshing to see local businesses offer a lending hand to schools in this great time of need. We feel very fortunate that PrintFarm decided to help our school with the printing of the school newspaper. The fieldtrip, well, that's the icing on the cake," said Ms. De La Osa, Language Arts Department Chairperson for Doral Middle School.

Since opening its doors in 2000, PrintFarm has been providing high-quality printed products at affordable prices while using the latest printing technology. Last year, Albert Alvarez, CEO of PrintFarm, partnered with the MDCPS to launch a year-long, two-fold campaign which is supporting different initiatives throughout the 2009-2010 school year.

"It is not until you give back to the community, that you realize what you have gained and how fortunate you really are," said Albert Alvarez, CEO of Print Farm. For more information on PrintFarm and the MDCPS Campaign, please contact Natalie Leon at 786-537-0751.
